Hidden Valley School is a Dual Track School - English Regular Program and Early French Immersion

We have both a Regular English Program and an Early French Immersion. We offer these programs for Kindergarten to Grade 4 students. The entry points for French Immersion are Kindergarten and Grade 1 only. We only accept students who reside in the neighborhoods of Hidden Valley, Hanson Ranch & Ambleton for our Regular English Program.  We only accept students in our Early French Immersion Program from the neighborhoods of Hidden Valley, Hanson Ranch, MacEwan, Kincora, Sandstone, The Hamptons, Sherwood and Ambleton.

Our teachers work intentionally and collaboratively in Professional Learning Teams at each grade level. We believe that a positive, healthy and supportive learning/teaching environment is essential to all learners. Our strength lies in our whole community approach to learning and our focus is the ongoing development of approaches to teaching literacy and language skills across the curriculum. We focus in on personalized learning for all students and instructional approaches that involve differentiation and universal design for learning.

School Philosophy – Our Commitment

At Hidden Valley School, we believe that learning thrives through collaboration, care, and inclusion. Guided by our motto, We work together! | Nous travaillons ensemble!, we are committed to:

  • Celebrating the diversity of our school community through inclusive and equitable practices.
  • Maintaining a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for all.
  • Fostering a culture where racism, discrimination, and bias have no place, and where equity, dignity, and belonging are at the heart of our work.
  • Recognizing and honouring Dates of Significance alongside our students and families, reflecting the richness of our community.
  • Honouring the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation by deepening our understanding of Indigenous knowledges, languages, and teaching methods, and by integrating Indigenous circle processes and talking circles to foster respectful dialogue and build relationships among students and staff.
  • Removing barriers and providing supports so that every learner, regardless of background or need, has the opportunity to succeed.
  • Hearing and valuing student voice, and engaging families and the community as active partners in learning.
  • Promoting well-being—for students and staff alike—as integral to growth, engagement, and achievement.
  • Embracing our combined-grade classroom structure, where collaboration, flexible planning, and responsive teaching meet the developing needs of all learners.

Environmental Initiatives at Our School

Working Toward a Waste-Free School

At Hidden Valley School, we are committed to caring for our environment and fostering sustainable habits in our students. As part of this commitment, we are working toward becoming a waste-free school—a place where we all take responsibility for reducing, reusing, and recycling.

A key part of this initiative is our Waste-Free Lunch program. We encourage students to bring lunches and snacks that create little to no waste. This means:

  • Using reusable containers, water bottles, and cutlery.
  • Avoiding single-use plastics, disposable packaging, and individually wrapped items.
  • Bringing home any food scraps or packaging that can be composted or recycled.

Through these small, everyday actions, students learn how their choices can make a positive difference for our planet. Together, we can reduce our environmental footprint—one lunch at a time.

Recycling

  • Hidden Valley School is involved in recycling efforts and ways to reduce our production of waste. All washrooms have a compost bin for used paper towels. In each main area of the school, students have access to recycling, compost and waste bins. Each bin has a sign indicating which items should be placed in each bin.
  • Hidden Valley students are asked to use the appropriate bins when disposing of waste. In addition to these bins, our leadership students collect cardboard and recyclables from classrooms every week.

Community Clean-Up

Throughout the year, classrooms will be going on community walks to pick up garbage in our school community.

Our School's Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

We are committed to acknowledging and supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission 94 Calls to Action specific to education. Our school, along with all CBE schools, made a Truth and Reconciliation Commitment to Action, on June 21, we renewed our commitment.

School Development Plan

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
